COLLAR CHair

Working directly from sketches with company owner and designer Niels Bendtsen we developed the Collar occasional chair. My role in the process was complete involvement from the initial CAD generation through mock-ups to production. Early in development we had foam forms cut that allow for scale review of the shapes and aesthetics. Using these forms I made modifications to the foam, shaving down areas and sanding until we achieved an elegant result. I also fabricated a very simple wood base to emulate the final result and give a better understanding of the formal relationships.
All final production is done in Italy while our team and I coordinated with sub-suppliers. Oversight of each of the processes whether cold foam injection or wood component assembly is critical. Our group of craftsmen are experts in their individual fields and could quickly realize our intent but also need direction. The reception of the chair has been very positive and should only increase with more exposure.
