ShIMMER FLAGS

2015

SHIMMER is an installation of reflective flags created as an exploration in light, material and movement. The thin ‘gold’ material is a transmutation of the typical fabric and serves as a constantly moving and transforming reflector. The material shift also alters the audio expectation creating a crinkling sound that denotes a continuous change. The virgin material actively wrinkles while flown as changes in wind direction dramatically distort the pliable surface. As the material becomes increasing faceted the sound of the aging is softer, more muted. The resultant texture is a history of the wind pattern for that particular day.
