Steel tubing, wood frame, horse hair, fabric
The premise of this work is simple, to take and existing banal chair and convert into an one-off unique piece. Partly an investigation into upholstery the metal frame itself provided a distinct set of challenges. The original chair was disassembled and then literally cut in half. Although the chairs are extremely common the size of square tubing is irregular and had to be fabricated. The upholstery is also a dynamic departure from the original in that much of the work is done by hand. Reflective of the intent of my work a mass-manufactured product is converted into a special and treasured piece.
